Carolyn Austin began designing and creating
glass art within the family business in 1986. She has built her
reputation in the Palm Beach Community as one of the most unique
glass etching artists in the area.
Carolyn has lived in the Jupiter/Tequesta area since 1979 and has developed an eye for the tropical Florida scenes from long legged birds to intensely detailed ocean life which in turn creates one of a kind glass art.
“I love working with people and using my 20 years experience to create a beautiful customized look in glass, whether it be an entrance way or a free standing piece of glass art. All my designs are created by hand, an intricate detailed process to enhance each clients home and personality. Making my glass art a personal favorite for each client is always satisfying. I take pride in my work as does my staff and the exclusive following it has created.”
Since the Palm Beach Post article below the business has grown in many different directions. We are staffed with a talented group that works well together creating a lasting impression in many different aspects of glass art.
Glass etcher and carver Steve Park adds his talent to the designs created with the process of multi level etching and carving. This is an intense intricate part of the final outcome of our glass art.
Artist and painter Julie Silk Beaumont works closely with Carolyn to create spectacular designs for our glass art, from traditional to contemporary and anything in between.
Julie can add color with paint to our glass or murals behind it to add colorful dimension.
Glass fusing artist Stacy Dorr offers her unique talent of creating “Hot Glass” to enhance and add new dimension with depth and color to our etched and carved designs.
Between these artists, Unique Glass Art offers a variety of glass art from your doors and windows to free standing glass art and unique gifts.
Specializing in custom glass etching and carving for entryways shower enclosures tabletops and mirrors, Unique Glass Art’s work can be found in residential and commercial areas as well as hospitals, restaurants and on yachts.
We offer an on site service which enables us to work on your existing glass while keeping a dust free environment. We use aluminum oxide in place of chemicals or sand. This is a much more user friendly media with a fine classy artistic finish. Yacht owners are big fans of our mobile dust free etching equipment. We come to your dock as well as create back lit carvings in our studio to be installed.
We invite you to take the opportunity to spend some time with us to create a unique design in glass for your home, office or yacht. Carolyn is available for consultations in your home or her studio.

Palm Beach Post article 1995
Company carves out market in glass art
The name of the company is Unique Glass Art and is a perfect description of this unusual Jupiter business.
The nine-year-old venture includes a pair of artistic in-laws. The partnership started when Carolyn Bock married Jim Austin, then joined her new brother-in-law Mike Austin in working in the family sign business, which was run by her father-in-law Dana Austin.
The idea to open a business specializing in glass carving and etching took root after Carolyn and Mike tried experimenting with sand etching on glass.
"It worked great and created a beautiful look," said Mike.
The sand etching procedure is used on big items such as lights for entry ways, carved accents, sliding doors and murals. Acid is used to etch smaller pieces.
"We've done everything from specialty pieces that include birth announcements and golf awards to large displays for restaurants and interior designers," said Carolyn.
Although both artists are versed in all procedures, Carolyn usually creates and cuts out the stencils and Mike does the carving.
The etching is done on the surface and requires a great deal of definition in the stencil. "It's easier for me to create a stencil for the carving procedure since Mike adds the dimension as he carves, " said Carolyn.
The artists have lived in Florida for 15 years, which is long enough to have acquired a Florida look on many of the designs. Long-legged water birds and spectacular sport fish are favorite designs of local residents and restaurantuers.
Although neither of the partners have received formal training, both agree that while working in the sign shop, "Dad taught us a lot."
Unique Glass Art is in the Center Park Plaza by the Jupiter Ale House on Center Street.
